4/7/17

More rain, and snow today, has left us with tough conditions going into the weekend.  Area streams are high and muddy.  Tomorrow is Youth Mentored Trout Day and the weather is supposed to be beautiful.  Get out and enjoy it with the kids!  Smaller streams and the lakes are likely your best chances of catching some trout.

On the lakes, the trout have been biting well on Hamilton and Beechwood.  Live minnows and wax worms have been best.  Crappies and perch are being caught at Hills Creek and Hamilton.  Both on live minnows.  Hammond & Cowanesque have not fished well yet.  Both are high, cold, and muddy.  Things should improve soon.

Water temps were holding between 42 and 46 on the lakes.  Snow today will drop that some too.  After this weekend, it looks like the weather should normalize and fishing should pick up soon.  We have answered dozens of calls about Hammond crappies and it's been slow, very slow, out there.  Another week or so and things should start turning around, especially if we do have a string of warmer days.

Good luck fishing.
